Great Lakes Paper Company, Limited was incorporated in Ontario 1936. The company’s name changed to Great Lakes Forest Products Limited in 1979. In 1988 the company amalgamated with CIP Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Limited) and the name changed to Canadian Pacific Forest Products Limited. The company’s name changed to Avenor Inc. in 1994. In 1998 Avenor Inc. was acquired by Bowater Incorporated of Greenville, S.C. and the name changed to Bowater Pulp and Paper Canada Inc. In 2002 Bowater Pulp and Paper Canada Inc. Amalgamated with Bowater Canadian Forest Products Inc. to form a company called Bowater Canadian Forest Products Inc.
